How to use Time functions in excel?

This article wil provide information about following topics.

1.How to enter Time in Excel and How to change the format of Time(i.e from AM to PM etc.)

1. How to enter Time in Excel and How to change the format of Time ?

1st Method: You can add Time in cell using column between Numbers. For example if you want to write 12 hours 30 minute, You can write 12:30. To display Seconds you can write, 12:30:05.

2nd Method: To add a number of hours, minutes and/or seconds, use the TIME function.

=TIME(HOUR,MINUTE,SECOND)

Example

1. Enter TIme using TIME() function

2. To change the format of Time, Right click on cell and Select Format cells. In Format cell dialogue box click on Time and change the Type as shown in right side box.

You can also provide the Hour, Minute and Second details in different cell and use the formula.

2. How to get Hour, Minute or Second information from given time?

=HOUR(cell_address): Extracts hour from the given time.

hour

=MINUTE(cell_address) : Extracts minutes from the given time.

minute

=SECOND(cell_address) : Extracts seconds from the given time.

second

3. How to add hour, minute and second to given time?

=TIME(HOUR(cell_address)+add_hour, MINUTE(cell_address)+add_minute, SECOND(cell_address r+add_second)
